Seeking Coordinator for RETRAC2
 
Job Title: Research Officer/Coordinator (0.5 to 1.0 FTE), Research on Commercial Tobacco Reduction in Aboriginal Communities or RETRAC2
Duration: Six months, initially
Location: University of Toronto, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Ontario Tobacco Research Unit and Waakebiness-Bryce Institute for Indigenous Health
 
The Research Officer/Coordinator will be responsible for developing partnerships and collaborations with Indigenous organizations and communities involved in the research project,  coordinating project activities, supporting data collection in selected communities, site visits, interim report writing,  and ensuring that RETRAC2 protocols and practices are culturally safe.
 
Main responsibilities:
-          Engaging with communities interested in and involved with RETRAC2
-          Be conduit of communication with communities
-          Offer guidance to communities on hiring community peer researchers, further developing commercial tobacco reduction strategies, getting community and governance buy-in, implementing commercial tobacco reduction interventions
-          Support community-based research and evaluation
 
Qualifications:
Understanding and experience with engaging Indigenous communities in health interventions and in community-based research; familiarity with Indigenous ways of knowing. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of relevant experience working with Indigenous communities and hold a master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Indigenous health research, health promotion, sociology, anthropology, social work. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and commensurate experience will also be considered.
